Excellent

This book was fantastic. Mysterious, romantic, sexy...it was really good. The main character Savannah was likeable because she was human - she was exceedingly strong-willed but never admitted it. The relationship between Savannah and the vampire, William, was beautiful. Though it had so many levels, the fiery, sexy level and then the lovely, passionate level and everything in between, their relationship was truly loving and very well-described. Though some of the vampire features didn't match up with common vampire knowledge, it was still a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who has what I have - a love of vampires.

This is my first review on Amazon because I think the low rating is misleading. I have to say this book is extremely underrated. Unlike most paranormal romance nowadays, this one actually has a good plot that carries the story, very likable and well-developed characters, and is well written with dialogues that don't seem forced. One of my pet peeves in the romance genre is that the leads fall in love too fast. However, if it's done right, readers can still believe that this couple will have a chance after HEA.

This book is done right. The story is about Savannah, a strong-willed, loyal girl determined to avenge her beloved brother's death. She seeks out William Dark, a tortured, ancient vampire with hidden secrets, in order to turn her into a vampire. Yes, the story has been done before. Sweet, young, innocent heroine with the strength and courage to break through the barriers of a dark, handsome vampire to save his soul. However, it's the journey Ms. Eden takes us that through that will leave readers aching for more. She creates a dark, sensual atmosphere with two very courageous, driven people. They're very real. Their past, their fears, their happiness, and their gradual love.

I read compliants about there being too much sex in the story. I'm surprised that people would link this to an erotica. There's no more sex in this book than the next Dark-Hunter or Immoral After Dark book. And even when there is, it's not cheap or smutty. It's done tastefully. I would describe it as more passionate and steamy.

This is my first book by Ms. Eden and if the rest of her books are like this one, it certainly won't be my last. Don't let the low reviews scare you off. Give this book a try. I'm glad I did.

Amen, Sister!

A well-structured, well laid out, well punctuated, easy on they eyes read. The author busts some of the common myths about what being a writer really is. I know—I am one. She has a nice personable style to her writing, like sitting in a coffeehouse with a friend who’s telling you the truth about that boyfriend (fear of writing) you think you’re not in love with.

As I read I’m getting a lot out of this book. For example the minimalistic formatting with bold where it needs to be proves to me that this author knows how to make a book “scannable.” Not an easy thing to do.

There’s a lot of tried and true advice as reminders in this book and any new author will find it helpful as they ramp up the courage to start writing, whether it’s for a living or not.

Favorite nugget: “You don’t have to be the ultimate expert before you start writing a book
because the process of writing a book is a journey toward expertise.” Amen, sister!

Not all fluff—some great actionable and outlined how-to advice in this book. I’m a big fan of how in ”how-to” books.

How were Vietnam Veterans treated after coming home from the war?

This is an excellent book, and its too bad that its out of print. The author was a newspaper columnist, who column one day mentioned that some Vietnam Veterans were spit on or treated badly upon coming home from Nam. He got so much mail that he asked his readers to submit stories. Later, he and friends in the military sorted through the stories to filter out the obvious fakes, etc. Afterwards, he took a few hundred stories, one or two pages long, and categorized them in to 3 categories. Vets who claimed to have been spit on, usually at the air terminals where they disembarked from Nam. Veterans who were treated very, very well by civilians who were grateful for their service. And the largest category seemed to be veterans who got negative responses for their service in Vietnam.

Great fun for intermediate readers!

Catwoman’s at it again. After giving Batman the slip during a chase, she comes home to find Penguin waiting for her, with a proposal – steal the Ventriloquist’s Dummy, Scarface. It will render him helpless and eliminate the competition he poses to Penguin. Never able to turn down the chance for a good score, Catwoman accepts, and touches off a war! The Ventriloquist wants revenge against Penguin, and Penguin has no intention of backing down. Will Catwoman turn to Batman for help, or will she allow a bloody crime war to rage unchecked?

This book is a fun read; a great combination of chapter book and graphic novel, it will hold readers’ interests with the fast-paced action and Luciano Vecchio’s intense art. Vecchio is well-versed in DC artwork, handling art duties on Beware the Batman, Young Justice, and the Green Lantern Animated Series. Matthew K. Manning, the Bat-scribe here, is a well-known comic writer whose work I really like; here, he doesn’t talk down or over his audience. He’s right where the kids need him to be, and, with Vecchio, creates a fun adventure.

Enhanced content, including comics terms and a glossary of words used in the story, and discussion questions, round out the book.

Well-written and fun story about a favorite hero!

I received an eARC copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Here is my honest review.

When I requested this book, I was expecting a comic so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is a book with comic panels interspersed throughout.

Not being a Batman expert, I thought the story was well-written and portrayed the characters how I am familiar with them. I thought the panels of artwork were very well done. The writing is engaging and would be great for an advanced reader. As an educator, I appreciate the rich vocabulary used as well as the detailed descriptions and complex sentence structure. Netgalley noted that the book contained "visual discussion questions, and writing prompts to enhance visual literacy and improve critical reading skills." The questions are well-written and provide a great jumping off point that any parent or teacher could extend even further.

I enjoyed this book and would look for more books like it to share with my son and other young readers. I believe that children should always be able to just read something they enjoy; with this book, they will also increase their literacy skills through great writing and vocabulary.

Bible for building ships in bottles

This was my second book of many books I own on building ships in bottles. I built my second ship in a bottle from this book (a clipper ship). This book and Don Hubbards book (my first book and first ship) are best for those starting out. What makes this book the best is that he also includes putting other things in bottles like a one legged pirate which I also built. This makes it a step above the rest. Once you learn from these two you can get others for more ideas and ship model plans. Even if your starting by building from a kit you need this book to learn the fundamentals.

The technique for getting a model ship into a bottle is pretty straightforward. Construct the ship outside the bottle with collapsible masts and sails, insert the rig, erect the masts, secure it, cork it, and you're done. I've been collecting various books on the subject recently and enjoy how each author puts their unique twist on the technique. Jack Needham has done an excellent job covering the topic.
