With the advent of the Internet, enthusiasts were finally able to link up across the world and compare experiences, improve their overall knowledge and discovered that many pre-90 bonsai books are inaccurate and in some cases downright wrong! Unfortunately many vendors and 'authorities' on bonsai still hark back to the old days and continue to perpetuate myths and bad practises.

Paranormal Sex Romp

This was a mixed bag for me. I liked it but I think there was potential for some amazing world building in this story that unfortunately, missed the mark. The book was 85% sex, 15% story and while I like sex just as much as the next girl, I had a hard time believing that these two fell in love with each other when they barely talked. They spent the majority of their time together having sex; when did the love come into play? I guess during one of their mind blowing orgasms because they were basically strangers who were just seriously attracted to each other. Simon, a dark fay dragon-shifter, needed a human wife which he was not at all happy about, and Mae was a librarian who meets Simon at work and within hours of meeting, they're screwing over and over and over and over and over again. I'm not saying that the sex wasn't hot because it was but it became so gratuitous that I found myself skipping over some of it to get to an actual story or conversation between the two of them. When they get to Simon's realm, I was hopeful that there would be some world building because there was so much potential for an amazing story but again, were just screwing constantly and barely talking. I really feel like it was a missed opportunity for the author to create a really awesome urban fantasy/paranormal romance. What a bummer.

So if you are in the mood for a fun and hot little erotic sex romp than this is your book but if you are hoping for a really exciting paranormal romance with character development and incredible world building, you will be let down.

Excellent series!

I followed this series in installments and it blew me away. This debut author has a gift for creating rich characters - ones I actually cared about and who felt so multi-layered and real. The romance between Mae and Simon was incredibly hot, sexy AND sweet. I'm an avid romance reader, yet this one felt completely fresh and different. If you want a smoldering read with a sexy alpha and a strong heroine, then I can't recommend this one enough.

It was with great excitement that I opened the delivery box for this deck. I have all of Colette's oracles, her Avalon deck being my daily go to, and the deck that I use for friends who request readings. Her cards are always beautiful, with imagery that is unusual and breathtaking, and most of all, they're spot on!

When I got to the Map Oracle box, and lifted the lid, I swear there was almost a whisper of powerful energy released. The imagery on this deck doesn't fail to impress. Gorgeous and beautiful, lush and sweet, many of the cards bring a sense of peace.

Working with the cards are easy, the explanations are well written and clear. I love that she always gives enough options to allow a deeper understanding. I especially liked the new 6 card spread she offers.

My only dislike with this deck is that it, like the Hidden Realms deck, has two meanings per card; regular and reverse. One of the beauties of her Avalon deck is there is one position, all meanings under one umbrella, and you have to search for the truth within, trust your vibes and learn your lesson on you own. It's my preference not to make any of the cards feel derogatory, but just be.

Besides my one dislike, I find this deck, like the Avalon deck, to be in the now, where as Hidden Realms provides information that is a bit further out on the time line.

Colette provides spiritual guidance on how to master the present moment to manifest great things. The drawings on this deck is amazing. Beautiful pictures.

This is an amazing and powerful healing tool

First i must say that i had my doubts about the set of cards and the book, i have seen many (so called Oracles written) and frankly some of them left me laughing and down right offended at the lack of integrity of the work.
this deck however will inspire you and lift your intuitive process to new and amazing heights.
The moment i received my deck and companion booklet, i was stunned and frankly taken aback with the accuracy and insightful personal energy of this set.
She makes no bones about her journey and let me say here that she has truly been down the hard path and made it back again, she has survived things that most people would have never sprang back from, and she lived to tell the tale .
her informative tenderness and her level of compassion shine through in this deck and in the book, and let me recommend right here right now, please buy the book and use it daily it will change your perception of what the cards truly say.
The cards themselves are absolutely beautiful and clear, there isn't a confusing muddle of symbols to interpret nor are there lists of things to do and ways to do them .
she is straight up ,, honest ,, and forthright and says clearly if you want to heal then do the work , face yourself and get down and get dirty and get with it .. you wont regret this purchase .. and there it is my humble opinion

About the Author
Born in Chicago in 1928, Philip K. Dick would go on to become one of the most celebrated science fiction authors of all time. The author of 44 published novels and 120 short stories, Dick won a Hugo Award in 1963, and a John W. Campbell Memorial Award in 1975, and was nominated five separate times for the Nebula Award. Eleven of his works have been turned into films, including Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, and A Scanner Darkly. He died in 1982.

Not Blade Runner, but a deeper look at the human psyche through the lens of a moral dilemma

He turns off machines, that's his job. They are dangerous machines, androids, but he is basically turning off machines. But he realizes that there is little difference between the machines and the people he knows. So why MUST the machines be turned off?

This is a moral dilemma for Decker and he cannot untwist his increasing sympathy for the androids he is hunting from his sense of duty to the force and his wife.

It is very sad and very depressing especially when you are clearly presented with androids who are not sympathetic, do not care, except about their own survival, and can only imitate emotion, not really feel. In the end Decker is crippled by his murder of the last of the androids. He will no longer hunt them, can no longer kill them.

Blade Runner hinted at this moral dilemma but spectacle triumphed over substance and all we have left of it is Decker's moves to save the woman/android he has come to love. That, and the magnificent monologue of Rutger Hauer on the roof of the Bradbury Building. Stunning performance. That recollection of his life makes him human, no different then other humans but then, it's time to die. Love, love, love that scene.

As Good As The Movie, In Its Own Way

This is one of those stories I have been meaning to read for years (ever since viewing "Blade Runner," starring Harrison Ford/Rutger Hauer/Darryl Hannah). The movie is loosely based upon the book; however, the vision created by Philip K. Dick is one that is not to be missed.

I found the world the author created to be fascinating. While there is fear of androids, humans use devices to dictate their emotions. Television is a major factor in their lives, and religion is embraced but controlled. The author handles all of this and more in a matter-of-fact style, drawing the reader into a future that at times is strange, yet vaguely familiar to those of us living in what would have been PKD's future.

The story is told through two people, the bounty hunter Rick Deckard and John Isidore, a "damaged" human who lives for a time with the androids Deckard is hunting. The reader sees the world through the eyes of these two men, and we are allowed to experience the inner turmoil both must deal with as the story rushes to its conclusion.

While I still love the movie, the differences between the book and movie versions are why I awarded five stars. Some of the book explained a bit of the back-story never told in the movie, and the well-detailed future world is definitely worth your time.

The difference between humans and humanoid androids is . . . what? . . . --

I found this book fascinating, and in all respects except visual style superior to its movie derivative, the influential BLADE RUNNER. A San Francisco cop who is part detective, part bounty-hunter, is deputed to bringing in escaped androids from Mars, who have become so human-looking and -acting that they are difficult to locate, track, and kill. That part is the same as the movie, except that this top PKD novel is set in an explicitly post-nuclear world, not merely a chronically polluted one, and most of the differences flow from that. Even so, Dick makes it surprising. While he was rarely a top prose stylist, Dick's ideas and plots are so innovative and compelling that it doesn't really matter. If you're read any of his other novels, such as THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE, you'll probably enjoy this one. If PKD is new to you, this is a good one to start with.

I do not like thee Dr. Fell

"The Mad Hatter Mystery" has nothing to do with Alice's Mad Hatter, although it takes place in a locale almost as English as Wonderland, i.e. the Tower of London. As may be guessed from the murder site, Carr relies heavily on atmospherics: shrouds of fog; a corpse with a crossbow bolt through its heart; an unpublished story by Edgar Allen Poe; and above all a mad prankster who steals the headgear of London's elite (everyone wore hats in 1933) and displays his prizes in the most unlikely locations.
When a corpse shows up near Traitor's Gate with a stolen top hat jammed on its head, Scotland Yard automatically enlists Dr. Gideon Fell to solve the bizarre murder.

He solves it of course--but not before an army of suspects each takes his or her turn in the spotlight. Although Carr is most famously known for his locked -room mysteries and 'impossible' crimes, he was also a master of the eerie atmosphere. "The Mad Hatter Mystery" has both in great quantity: lots of macabre touches; and the solution will surprise even the keenest mystery buff. Dr. Fell's tics and grotesqueries aren't as intrusive as in some of Carr's other mysteries starring his massive, eccentrically-dressed detective. The doctor also shows a great deal of restraint (for him) in dropping hints that he already knows the identity of the murderer, even though it's only page forty-five and the reader has two-hundred-and-forty-one pages to go before he or she figures out whodunit.

Supposedly modeled after Carr's idol, G.K. Chesterton, Dr. Fell also resembles a jovial Father Christmas or a President Chester A. Arthur, resting comfortably after a vast meal that was consumed with countless pints of beer. He's not my favorite fictional detective, although he appeared in twenty-three novels culminating in "Dark of the Moon" (1967). However, I do like Carr's atmospheric mysteries so I'll probably end up reading all twenty-three of 'em. This is one of the best, so far.

Great company. I recieved it in the space of a week. The book is a bit worn, but that is to be expected since this book has been out of print for quite some time.

Gid Does It Again!

I love thee madly, Dr. Fell
The Reason Why I'll Gladly Tell...

Dr. Fell reminds me of Jonathan Downes of the Center for Fortean Zoology and author of THE OWLMAN AND OTHERS more than he does of Gil Chesterton or any of those other boring people others love to compare him to. The reason being that the good Doctor, like our Jon, is...ah...well-padded, has great hair, and is a whiz at tackling seemingly impossible and well-nigh insoluble mysteries.

I am not going to tell you a lot about the plot...other reviewers have done that. Nor am I going to complain yet again because the darned book isn't yet available on Kindle when ALL of Carr's Doctor Fell and Sir Henry Merrivale stories (the last written under the pseudonym of Carter Dickson) should be available on Kindle.

Nor will I go on and on about how it was John Dickson Carr (an American author living in England) who was chosen by Adrian Conan Doyle (son of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) to collaborate with him on a book of short stories featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson Exploits of Sherlock Holmes because you probably already know that too.

Instead I'll just tell you that Carr was one of the Grand Masters of the Art and there is no one alive today who can write 'em like this.
