Although at times it reads like a "fiction" storyline and almost put it down for good in the beginning. But don't give up on it as it will soon grab you and present you with solid content. (I'm guessing he may have used a ghost writer that writes "fiction?) I would recommend the book for either "newbies" or seasoned readers of UFO technology because it adds to or reinforces your library of information. Aside from the UFO technology the author presents the human nature side of the abductions and their cause and effect. For myself, after reading this book I am more aware of the "whole" picture rather than the bits and pieces I have picked up in the past. (Actually the "fictional" style of writing keeps your interest up and wanting to continue to the next chapter....)

I know that we are not alone but as of yet we have been given no tangible proof for those who still want to argue the point against et s existence. Maybe one day soon in my lifetime we will all know without any doubt so in the meantime I read tons of books on this particular subject matter and hope when that day comes I will be mentally and emotionally ready to deal. I like how jim put forth this information it's an easy read and I found it to be quite fascinating right up there with the Andreessen affair also another good read on same subject matter

very interesting read,a lot of it makes sense to me,especially about cleaning up our act and looking after mother earth,if we as humans don't do more to stop polluting our planet we as a species are in dire trouble and will not survive to see out the next hundred years.To think that these messages are coming from Alien civilizations is a comforting thought because we are making a heck of a mess of it at this moment.It's an extraordinary story well wort reading.

Very informational

I read this book in a weekend. It's a great introduction to starting a cancer free diet and what foods you should avoid. It gives lots of alternatives to healing cancer naturally and goes to the source of what causes cancer in the first place. As someone who does not have cancer but knows so many who do, I will definitely apply this information to change my lifestyle and diet to be cancer free and share it with those friends who have been diagnosed with cancer. As the book says, it really is "common sense" and getting back to "real foods" that our bodies are meant to have. Overall, very informational.

I work with a integrative cancer treatment center (they are excellent, by the way - my husband was treated very successfully there [...]) And this is the book that I recommend every one if they've been diagnosed with cancer or have a high cancer rate in their family. It is simple, understandable, and a quick read - this is especially important when one is first diagnosed with cancer and fear is high (really, our society has laid so much on how "scary" cancer is and how much we have to "battle" it - and standard "cures" are, well, often they simple are not). Also, this book reiterates that each and everyone of us does have control over our health. There are other excellent books out there but this is definitely one that is kept in our library and one that I gift often. There is a free movie to go with this [...] but I found the book a bit more comprehensive and better laid out.

Three Reasons to Upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1

Windows 8 already runs on more than 100 million computers worldwide, but many Windows 8 owners feel lost in this strange new operating system. Fast forward one year later, and Microsoft has released Windows 8.1, a replacement to Windows 8. It's easily an improvement.

In fact, here are three reasons Windows 8 owners should upgrade to Windows 8.1.

Windows 8.1 is free

Owners of older Windows versions must pay to upgrade to Windows 8.1, but Windows 8 and Windows RT owners can upgrade to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT without charge. To download and install the free upgrade, open the Windows Store app from the Start screen. Then start the upgrade with a click or tap on the "Update to Windows 8.1 for Free" option.

It's easier to stay on the desktop

Windows 8 constantly forced people to switch between Windows 8's two personalities: the traditional Windows desktop, and the strange new Start screen and its world of touch-oriented apps.

After installing Windows 8.1, desktop lovers can spend more time on the desktop, insulated from the Start screen. Windows 8.1 offers many other perks, including the return of the Start button, and its App store now holds more than 100,000 apps. Facebook finally jumped in with its official Facebook app. Windows 8.1 shaves off Windows 8's rough edges, making it much less cumbersome to use.

Helpful to those new to Windows 8 and 8.1

Purchased in conjunction with a new PC as a gift for my mother for Christmas, Windows 8.1 for Dummies Book and DVD bundle has started her off on the right foot in transitioning from Windows 7 to 8 or 8.1 operating systems. I choose to upgrade her PC to Windows 8.1 (free from Microsoft) out of the box because of the security improvements and ease of use issues that were addressed by the upgrade. While subtle, they make a huge difference to those who are used to 7 and feel overwhelmed by 8's new look.

Some of the changes addressed by Windows 8.1 include:

- Ability to boot directly to desktop mode versus app interface.
- Adding back the 'Start' button in the desktop mode.
- Ability to put together more apps for easier mulit-tasking.
- Improved search capabilities system wide, integrating SkyDrive.

While none of these changes are a huge jump away from 8, they are improvements that make Windows more friendly.

In terms of a book like this one, those who are already familiar with Windows 8, probably don't need to buy this book if you already feel fairly competent at using the OS. Current users may find other books like Windows 8.1: The Missing Manual more useful.

However, if you are 'new' to the whole Windows 8 or 8.1 experience, this is a clearly written reference that will provide an easy to read book hitting on all the major learning points. The DVD helped my mother, as she is a 'visual' learner, but for some it may be unnecessary. Windows 8.1 For Dummies is the DVD-free version of this book if you simply would like to read and not watch this information.

When we first bought our new computer it had windows 8.1 After using it we found that we absolutely hated it. Tried working it and found we hated it all the more. Found that it sucked all the joy out of using the computer. We thought we would give the windows 8.1 for dummies a try. Reading this book helped us to understand the program. It worked us through all areas we had trouble with, and did it in a way that was easy to understand. We now love the windows 8.1 It has brought the joy in using the computer back

The DVD was a great introduction!

The old saying was that a picture was worth a thousand words. Well if that is the case, a video is worth a lot more than that. I've been using Windows since version 3.0, but I had been avoiding Windows 8 and 8.1. Why? Expert Paul Thurrott stated that Windows 8 is a disaster and "has set back Microsoft and Windows by years, and possibly for good." The Windows 8.1 has been called "slightly less terrible" as it did not fix many user complaints. There are still a number of annoyances, one being that the 8.1 Start button just takes you back to the Metro Start screen with colorful tiles and does not show a true Start menu with a list of programs like in Windows 7. There are numerous annoyances and the learning curve has been described as steep.

I finally got a new computer that came with Windows 8.1. I have to say that the Dummies DVD was a great introduction that showed a lot of the 8.1 changes and how 8.1 works (or doesn't work). It was great to see it in a video rather than trying to read instructions step by step while trying to view pictures of screenshots.

The DVD states: "The videos show you step-by-step how to use every new feature of Windows 8.1. Tackle the re-designed Start screen, use the Charms bar, organize and launch apps, and then connect to the internet, manage the Windows Mail app, and add your social media accounts. Toss in search, user accounts, and how to manage photos, video, and music, and you have the ultimate show-and-tell."

I didn't read a lot of the book. I used it more as a reference when I had a question. It seemed to offer good coverage of many topics and had a good index.

If you find that you like Windows 7 better than Windows 8.1, you can make Windows 8.1 look and function more like Windows 7. Download and install Classic Shell, a freeware Start menu very similar to the Windows 7 start menu. Then do a search for Make Windows 8.1 Like Windows 7. I never see the Metro or Modern screen with the colored tiles any more, and I haven't missed it.

Debido al interes que tengo en la cuchilleria, he comprado y leido varios libros acerca del trabajo con metal. Despues de haber leido varios en el idioma ingles, me decidi a buscar algun libro en mi idioma natal, el espa�ol. Confieso que al principio guarde un prejuicio pues dude de poder encontrar algun buen libro sobre el tema que no fuera traducido de algun otro idioma. Cual fue mi sorpresa de poder encontrar esta excelente obra, rigurosamente editada y bellamente ilustrada. La obra fue escrita por un profesor espa�ol de escultura y se puede apreciar la experiencia docente del autor y su exhaustiva investigacion sobre su arte. El texto esta claramente redactado y tan pronto recibi el libro por correo no pude soltarlo. Lo recomiendo para cualquier lector interesado en el tema.

David Bean has been trading the financial markets since 1995 starting with stocks. He transitioned to futures and commodities in 1996 with an interest in the global macro view of the markets. In 1997, he began developing automated trading systems. He currently trades futures, equities, and options and has published several books since 2010. Algorithmic Trading Systems will be his fifth book. Trading, researching, and publishing are Davids' professional passions. His academic background includes a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

Very easy read if you are familiar with TradeStation and NinjaTrader platforms.

The language in the book could be a little overwhelming if you've never used TradeStation or NinjaTrader, but if you are current users, this book is must-have!

This book contains over 200 pages of full-color screen shots and step-by-step illustrations on building and understanding strategies in their respective trading platforms.

Well worth the money

This over 200 page book is full of useful information for the algorithmic trader. It comes with ready to trade strategy codes for both Tradestation/Multicharts and NinjaTrader which can also be downloaded from the authors website.
Five different trade setups in different instruments are well documented and explained. From a simple just gap fill strategy to an advanced gap- and fade strategy with multiple exits and with different trend filters.
The book also covers how to set up your software for proper backtesting and how easy it is to make mistakes and get false results.
What I like most is the chapter about how to add different trend rules. This has made a big difference in my own strategy development.
The book is well worth the money and I give it 5 stars.

Great Book, this is definitely not a introductory book. experienced traders, either discretionary or algorithmic should read it to get new trading ideas, plus david shows not only the rules for the system but also the code and how you should set up your platform in order to trade it. BTW, the strategies are real tradable strategies,

From all the trading books that i have read so far, i can say that most of them only talk about trading philosophy and psychology, some of them talk about basic strategies and dont event show statistics, other show statistics but do not show the code. But this book has it all, and I think that every single trading book should be written as this one.

About the Author
Philip Delves Broughton was born in Bangladesh and grew up in England. From 1998-2004, he served successively as the New York and Paris bureau chief for The Daily Telegraph of London and reported widely from North and South America, Europe and Africa. He led the Telegraph’s coverage of the 9/11 attacks on New York and his reporting has twice been nominated for the British Press Awards. His work has also appeared in the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Times of London, and the Spectator. In 2006, he received his MBA from Harvard Business School. He currently lives in New York with his wife and two sons.

I’m Far From The Target Audience, Yet

This book Ahead of The Curve: Two Years At Harvard Business School by Phillip Delves Broughton caught my attention because of the author sharing his journey of giving up a very comfortable lifestyle in Europe for an uncertain one. I have my sights set on online components of a few state universities andor possibly some community colleges towards a second bachelor’s degree (for budgetary reasons). However, I must make it clear that I am coming from a positive place of being content with my place of employment when reviewing this book. With that out of the way, this author candidly shares his journey of attending Harvard while also making time for his wife and kids. He writes of how he and his wife Margaret spent time together when they went to the pre-ball party of the Priscilla Ball with their son Augie (page 92). Details such as a visit to the Yahoo company in Sunnyvale California (page 123) and the Google company are mentioned (page 125). Broughton also covers the process that he went through interviewing with one company based in California and another in Boston (pages 140-144). Broughton also included a story of an accomplished classmate who attended Harvard with a scholarship and tuition from her employer as well as a guaranteed job upon finishing her MBA. This classmate admitted to the author that multiple people thought she was crazy for leaving an investment banking job for a marketing department job that was half the pay of her banking job (pages 145-146). Helpful details are given on being deliberate about living where you want to live and why a person benefits from striving to minimize how often careers and specializations are changed if possible (pages 197-198). I must also make it clear that I’m reviewing this book unsolicited and for free (and as a unique way for me to get in touch with the ambitious and self-confident persona that helped me become class valedictorian in 8th grade).

Witty, Educations, and Rings True

As bureau chief of the daily telegraph's Paris Office, Philip Broughton was a talented writer before he went to HBS, and it shows. The book was fun to read, providing a cursory understanding of the usefulness of a half-dozen subjects at HBS in plain English. More importantly, Broughton critiques the intellectual and social reality of the school, and the consequences of trying to quantify every business decision. For example, problems with private equity. Broughton explains where the ideas come from, and what happens when they are applied, including when the ideas are pushed too far, to solve problems they can't solve -- and a few that sound good yet are more than a little vapid.

For more depth, and critique, of management consulting and the strategy business, you might look to Matthew Stewart's "The Management Myth."

If you want something more personal, about this people, this is great. It's a quick read I couldn't put down; five stars.

A really good insight into getting and doing an MBA

After getting an MBA myself, I decided to grab this book which was mentioned several times by our HR professor during the MBA classes. I read it in 1 week, it was all about reliving my experience although not in America, but Italy.
I really liked the fact that the author is very straightforward and honest about the "painful" experience of getting an MBA. It is not just about the financial burden this endeavor has, but also the peer pressure and the worst pressure of them all, yours.
The books is truly filled with accurate insights about doing an MBA. I would recommend it to everyone evaluating this option.
And do not get scared, although this is a very unique and hardcore experience, after all the sacrifice, it is completely worth it.
